adavu is Fiji’s 4th largest island, is south of Suva, Fiji’s capitol, and is surrounded by coral reefs.  Dive Kadavu shares the island with over 70 villages and 1 town, Vunisea, where there is a post office, police station, boarding school, and hospital.  The island’s Kadavu's Mt. Washingtonairport is near the town, and the resort is a short boat ride from the airport.  Facing west, overlooking the ocean with Mt. Washington in the distance, spectacular sunsets at Dive Kadavu are not uncommon.  This evening setting is shared with a maximum of 23 other guests, relaxing in the elevated open-air dining area, usually discussing the incredible underwater world glimpsed earlier in the day.

ach of the resort’s 10 bures has easy and direct access to the beach, dive shop, and dining and lounge areas, and feature queen beds (or 2 singles), ceiling fans, and private bathrooms.  Two of the bures can accommodate up to four people in 2 bedrooms – perfect for families.  The other 8 bures can accommodate up to 3 people each.

ive Kadavu/Matana Beach Resort is a small laid-back resort with one of the best beaches you could ever imagine, complete with "beach jar bar" to top it off. Easy diving, with a great variety of marine creatures. You can dive, just relax, do more diving, snorkel and kayak or if you are feeling energetic why not go for a trek up the hill or take the "Kadavu Challenge" to the waterfall. At Matana we say you will "arrive as a guest ... leave as a friend".

ive Kadavu is now under new ownership (purchased from Bob and Rena Forster by 2 Kiwi couples) as of November 2008.  Many of the staff has stayed on, including Managers David and Mere.  Here is what the new owners have to say:

Our vision - to provide an ideal place to enjoy God's beautiful creation both in the underwater world as well as in the peaceful surroundings of the resort without the lack of modern conveniences. We would like to encourage especially Christian groups to come and enjoy a time away from the pressures of today's busy lifestyle and go home both physically and spiritually refreshed.

We came across the sale of the resort almost "by accident" through the internet. Two of us visited the island and came back home saying that it was their best holiday ever. They had a look at one other resort, but Matana Beach Resort seemed so perfect for us. The previous owners - who started developing the property about 20 years ago from an empty piece of land - had done an amazing job. We like remote places and getting back to nature, but also appreciate having electricity and some other conveniences of modern life. Matana Beach has all of that. It is remote and still quite accessible. The island is still untouched by major tourism and when you are here, you experience the "real Fiji", not something put on just for tourists. We liked that. We also felt straight away "connected" to the local people through our mutual Christian faith.

We would like to see our connection with the neighbouring villages develop into a working partnership rather than just providing employment for some people, for the benefit of all. Our vision is to involve as many local people as possible in the activities offered for our guests and for our guests to have the opportunity to experience authentic Fijian culture and to leave the Island with fantastic memories.

Young" is a temporary state of being, "Young" is a state of mind you carry with you throughout your life. While Bob & Rena have long since moved past being "young" their little part of paradise has been infused with their youth. We thank goodness for people like Bob & Rena having the vision to create a place where we can all rejuvenate our spirits and youth. Vinaka.                       -- Glenn, Jennifer & Devin March 05

The crew was fabulous and the diving was awesome !! The Manta dives on the first day was diving of a lifetime. We saw 6 mantas - turtles and we did our 1st safety stop watching 2 octopi copulating for about 15 minutes. Bob - Thanks for taking such good care of us."               -- Anthony & Glenn Jan 05

Our second trip. Will be back next year. Saw a lot of new sea creatures. My thanks to Joeli, Meli, Pati for a lot of fun and jokes. Special thanks for the great final night performance of the band"   -- Thomas & Kathy March 05

ecently divers could hear a clicking sound while on the dive, and when they returned to the boat they found the cause of the clicking was two large humpback whales which could be seen not too far from the dive boat. The divers where thrilled!

his week we have dived with an oceanic hammerhead, several other species of shark, blue ribbon eels, and...
